Bowmore White Sands 17 Year Old, a ex-bourbon cask matured travel retail exclusive bottling.

Bowmore White Sands 17 Year Old is the pièce de résistance in the Bowmore travel retail exclusive range. I am sure a few of you will be familiar with it already as it is not a new addition to the Bowmore travel retail range it is simply the existing 17 year old being brought into line with the new style packaging which has been inspired by the distillery's island home.

Once available in the domestic market where it was replaced a few years back by an 18 year old expression, today the 17 year old expression is exclusive to travel retail and is popular with Bowmore fans, even Bowmore's Master Distiller Eddie MacAffer's lists it as a personal favourite.

Now known as the Bowmore White Sands 17 Year Old, its name was inspired by the Islay's stunning beaches of The Big Strand and Laggan Bay, a stretch a coast just south of the Bowmore distillery.

The whisky has been matured in ex Bourbon casks for 17 years in Bowmore's legendary No.1 Vaults, the oldest maturation warehouse in Scotland. Bowmore describe it as having notes of rich treacle toffee and ripe exotic fruits bound together by warm peat smoke.

Bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle with a RRP of £79.99
 

The repackaged Bowmore 17 now known as the Bowmore White Sands 17 Year Old joins the newly released Bowmore Black Rock and Bowmore Gold Reef in the Bowmore travel retail exclusive range. The three whiskies join the existing Bowmore Spring Tide which was launched in 2012 and sits at the top of the Bowmore travel retail exclusive range.
