Review of
Bladnoch distillery's latest addition to
their Classic Collection, the Bladnoch
Liora, and the first Bladnoch bottled at
'Distiller's Strength' of 52.2% ABV.
 Bladnoch
Liora is one of three Bladnoch Classic
Collection whiskies
which I am reviewing in for Burns Night.
Rabbie Burns, the national poet of
Scotland, was born on 25 January 1759 in Alloway,
Ayrshire, Scotland and spent his final
years in Dumfries not far from Bladnoch
distillery, if Burns was alive today I
am sure given his love of Scotch whisky
there is a good chance he may have
celebrated his birthday with a a few
drams from Bladnoch.
Bladnoch Liora is the latest addition to
the distillery's Classic Collection core
range, matured in both Bourbon and New
Oak casks it is said to embody the
delicate balance between the intensity
of the new oak and the sweetness of the
bourbon casks. Non-chill filtered,
naturally coloured, it is the first
Bladnoch bottled at 'Distiller's
Strength' of 52.2% ABV.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Creamy
vanilla fudge, honey, green apple, a hint of
fresh pear and some gentle oak spice.
Taste: A
lovely barley sugared candy sweetness, creamy
vanilla, honey, slightly tart green apple and pear, a lovely
light touch of peppery oak spice.
Finish: Refreshingly long,
more vanilla and some candied fruit,
vibrant oak
spice comes more to the fore but is kept
in check by the sweet candied fruit.
Comment:
No surprises here given the selection of
Bourbon and New Oak casks, a powerful
dram at 52.2% ABV and more than a match
for any spicy Haggis at a Burns Supper.
