Review of the
ex-Bourbon Barrel matured Bladnoch 11
Year Old, the grassy notes let you know
it is a Lowlander from Bladnoch, in fact
I would say the Lowland legend of
Bladnoch has been reborn in this dram.
 The
Bladnoch 11 Year Old is the entry level
expression in Bladnoch's age statement
range of single malt whiskies.
This 11 Year Old single malt has matured
exclusively in ex-bourbon casks. Each
cask used to create this expression was
hand selected by Bladnoch’s Master
Distiller, Dr Nick Savage, to bring
together what they describe as a refreshing and sweet
expression.
Historically Bladnoch has turned out
some absolutely outstanding whiskies
around this age that have matured in ex-bourbon casks, such as the superb
Flora & Fauna bottling bottled by then
owners United Distillers, so if Dr
Nick Savage has created something
anywhere near the quality of previous
expressions it is sure to be a cracker.

The Bladnoch 11 Year Old 2023 Release is non chill
filtered, naturally coloured and has
been bottled at a flavoursome 46.7% ABV.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Deliciously
enticing honey infused with a gentle
orange and lemon marmalade, just a touch
of vanilla fudge and some lovely fresh
grassy barley sugars.
Taste: Honey
with just a hint of a vanilla edge, some
spiced green apple joins the gentle
orange and lemon from the nose, some
lovely grassy gentle barley sugars, a
late burst of oak spice.
Finish: A
lovely fresh long finish where the
barley dominates but the oak spice has a
quick go at overthrowing it.
Comment:
A deliciously refreshing, mouthwatering
ex-bourbon cask matured dram, the barley
sugars keep any bitterness at bay and
the grassy notes let you know it is a
Lowlander from Bladnoch. The delicious
oak spices build with each mouthful,
after 2 or 3 pours you will want to
order another bottle. The bottling
strength and non chill-filtration no
doubt adds to the flavour pleasure.
Great to see Bladnoch back and producing
an outstanding ex-bourbon matured dram
reminiscent of the the cracking drams
the distillery turned out around 20
years ago.
