from independent bottler Whisky Illuminati's
Solaria Series is the first of three
releases from cask No.900077
with a
further 2 releases from the same cask
scheduled to be drawn and bottled over
the next four years.
The new Solaria Series aims to give
whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to
explore how Scotch whisky evolves in the
cask over time, thanks to its three-part
bottling. Following this first edition
(1:3) release in 2019, there will be a
second release in 2021, with the final
batch set for release in 2023.
Royal Brackla 2011 Cask No.900077
bottling 1 of 3 has been fully matured
in a First Fill Spanish Oak Sherry Butt.
The
Royal Brackla
2011
Solaria Series it is non chill-filtered, naturally coloured
and has been bottled at a higher than
normal cask strength than we would
normally see from any bottler, 68% ABV.
This first batch of the
Royal Brackla 2011 Solaria Series is a release of
only 150 bottles and is
available from from
specialist whisky shops such as
Master of
Malt
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Plummy fruit, brown sugared fruitcake,
honey and a gentle touch of vanilla
toffee.
Taste:
Sweet dark sherried fruit -
raisins, sultanas and orange joust with
a sweet vanilla toffee sweetness, not to
outdone the barley attempts to peak
through from behind the lovely dark
fruit, a touch of nutmeg and a late
appearance of a little cinnamon and dry
ginger.
Finish:
A long, rich, lingering,
dark sherried, mildly drying, gently
spiced, oaky finish.
Comment:
The sherry and oak are both vying for
pole position both fully charged by the
big 68% ABV bottling strength and the
barley is trying its best to peak
through between these two turbo charged
beasts and simply adding to the
pleasure. I have to say as young as this
is I particularly enjoyed this one out
of the Solaria Series and would be very
interested to see how this one has
developed come 2021 and 2023 when
the 2nd and 3rd batches are bottled.
