from independent bottler Whisky Illuminati's
Solaria Series is the first of three
releases from cask No.900364
with a
further 2 releases from the same cask
scheduled to be drawn and bottled over
the next four years.
The new Solaria Series aims to give
whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to
explore how Scotch whisky evolves in the
cask over time, thanks to its three-part
bottling. Following this first edition
(1:3) release in 2019, there will be a
second release in 2021, with the final
batch set for release in 2023.
Glentauchers 2011 Cask No.900364
bottling 1 of 3 has been fully matured
in a First Fill Spanish Oak Sherry Butt.

2011
Solaria Series it is non chill-filtered, naturally coloured
and has been bottled at a higher than
normal cask strength than we would
normally see from any bottler, 63.4% ABV.
This first batch of the
Glentauchers
2011
Solaria Series is a release of
only 100 bottles and is
available from from
specialist whisky shops such as
Master of
Malt
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Slightly musty sherried fruit, oak and
damp leather, bitter toffee is balanced
with a honeyed sweetness. A hint of
liquorice and ginger lurking in the
background.
Taste:
Big thick muscular sherry leads the way
with plum jam, burnt raisins, rum soaked
sultanas and some zesty orange. Tamed
somewhat by a drop of water which brings
a lovely brown sugared honeyed sweetness
to the party. The liquorice and ginger
from the nose is a little more
pronounced on the palate.
Finish:
The sherry fades out rather quickly
leaving some lingering sugared oak with
a slight liquorice tinge.
Comment:
This very much benefits from a drop of
water, it really is early days for this
one, I suppose it has until 2023 when
the third and final batch will be
bottled to come good..
