Review of the
Method and Madness 31 Year Old Single Grain Single
Cask whiskey.
The
Method and Madness whiskey range is a
new premium range of Irish whiskeys from
the Midleton Distillery. The range
recently launched with just four
whiskeys and sitting at the top of the new range is
something very special and very limited,
Method and Madness 31 Year Old Single
Grain Single Cask Irish
whiskey.
Single grain whiskey from
Midleton is a rarity in itself but
combined with the fact that it has been
bottled at 31 years old makes this a
very rare Irish whiskey. There is no
twist in the maturation with this one, like their is with the
other whiskeys in the new range,
it was distilled in 1985 then matured
for the full 31 years in a single refill American
Bourbon barrel and bottled on the 11th
July 2016. I suppose you could say
the Method and the Madness was keeping
this in their warehouse for the rather
unconventional number of 31 years.
In total there are 3 Single Cask Method
and Madness 31 year old Single Grain
whiskeys which will be released in April
2017, one cask each in the UK, Ireland
and France.
All 3 Single Casks have been bottled as
all whiskey should be, non
chill-filtered, natural colour and at a
cask strength of 51.3%, 51.8 and 52.5%
ABV.
The
Method and Madness 31 Year Old Single
Grain Single Cask Irish whiskey will be available
from April in the
UK, France and Ireland from this month
with an RRP of €1500.
You will find it available from specialist online whisky retailers such as

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Deliciously enticing mature sweet
bourbon sugars, honey, vanilla and some
luscious fruit.
Taste:
Sugars and honey just dance around the
palate they are joined by some lovely
vanilla and oak spice sandwiched between
layers of fruit.
Finish: A lovely long finish, a
delightfully slow fade of the honey and
vanilla sweetness and delicate oak
spices which is accompanied by a touch of
orange.
Comment:
This currently sits at the top of the
new Method and Madness range, a position
it is very worthy of. Grain whiskey is a
style of whiskey which often benefits from
spending a lot of years in a cask and
after 31 years I can say this is an
outstanding example of a mature Irish
single grain whiskey.
It is so rare to see any style of Irish
whiskey bottled at this age and a single
grain whiskey from Midleton is almost
just as rare and I am pleased to say
that this single grain whisky can
certainly hold its own amongst the best
Irish whiskies be it single grain, malt
or pot still.
