Review of Hart Brothers Linkwood 22 Year Old by Murray Cohen.
The Hart Brothers Linkwood 22 Year Old was distilled in 1990 and bottled in September 2012 at 46% by independent bottler Hart Brothers.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Blood-orange amber.
Nose: Banana flambé grabs the senses. Apricot essence like intense syrup exuding freeze-dried mature sweetness erupts. Take in the brilliant aromatic pipe tobacco. There is butter creaminess here. Rum and raisin ice cream heightens the profile over time with candy coated lychee nuts. There is an unexpected smokiness here which hovers over a hint of coconut milk.
Taste:
Full-bodied, mouth-filling, intense and meaty. Mature oozing figs and dates from a variety of terrains impress. The whisky builds to a spicy earthy crescendo.
Finish: Long, prune nectar with a burst of Ethiopian coffee. This one goes on for infinity. There is mystery here like finding a bottle in a cave where it has matured quiet and undisturbed only now to be found in the light of day. There is depth in this whisky expression.
Comment: The Linkwood 22 is a connoisseur’s dram. It has a sense of being cured, like a fine steak aged to the point of pure delectability.
