Greenore Single Grain which is produced
at the Cooley Distillery is a truly
unique whiskey as it is the only
expression of Irish Single Grain whiskey
in the world.
The raw ingredients for Grain whiskey
are simply maize, water and yeast with
perhaps a little barley. Grain whiskey
tends to have a lighter flavour than
malt whiskey and its principal purpose
is to be mixed with the more flavoursome
malt whiskey to produce an easy to drink
blend. However, at Cooley they produce a
grain whiskey that is good enough to
drink in its own right. The result is
their Irish Single Grain whiskey, Greenore.
Greenore grain whiskey is made from
maize - or corn as its also known -
which produces a beautiful smooth sweet
taste. When this is coupled with the
creamy vanilla notes from maturation in
exclusively ex-bourbon casks the results
is the distinct taste of Greenore Single
Grain Irish Whiskey.
Greenore's light bourbon-like taste
profile makes this an exceedingly
versatile whiskey accessible to all
taste buds.
Cooley produces two single grain Irish
whiskies, an 8 year old and a 15 year
old. The extra aging of the Greenore 15
year old produces a more complex robust
whiskey with new depths and layers of
flavours that compliment the smooth
sweet buttery vanilla notes that makes
the 8 year old so popular. Cooley have
also been known to release very limited
edition small batch bottlings.
