Review of the
Glen Moray 1998 Barolo Finish, another
deliciously rich sweet Glen Moray
Warehouse 1 dram and the flavour
pleasure experience it offers is no
doubt helped by bottling it at cask
strength.
Glen Moray 1998 Barolo Finish is the
second of three whiskies from Glen
Moray's Warehouse 1 Collection scheduled
for 2021.
Following on from the
Glen Moray 2005 Tokaji Finish
released in June this year, we have the
oldest release in the Warehouse 1
Collection to date, this second
release from Warehouse 1 this year was
distilled on the 7th December 1998 and
laid down to mature in American
ex-bourbon casks, before being finished
in three ex-Barolo casks. The three
casks were then vatted and bottled non
chill-filtered, naturally coloured at a
cask strength of 52.9% ABV and for those
of you who like an age statement, by my
calculations the Glen Moray 1998 Barolo
Finish is over 22 years old.
This year’s Warehouse 1 whiskies all
share a common theme, celebrating Glen
Moray’s classic Speyside spirit matured
in casks sourced from some of Europe’s
oldest, noblest and most distinctively
flavoured wine varieties.
Considered by many to be the king of
Italian red wines, Barolo is produced in
the Piedmont region from Nebbiolo
grapes, which are high in tannin and
acid. Rich and full bodied, wine will
have spent at least 18 months in the
barrels used for final maturation of the
Barolo Finish expression.

The three Barolo wine casks used to
finish the Glen Moray 1998 Barolo Finish
Warehouse 1 release produced just 853
bottles which have a RRP of £139.95 and
will be exclusively available in the UK from
