Review of
Glen Moray 2005 Tokaji Finish the second release from the distillery’s ‘Warehouse 1 Collection’.

The Glen Moray 2005 Tokaji Finish is
the second release in the distillery's
‘Warehouse 1 Collection’ and the first
of three whiskies they plan to release
over the course of 2021 from the new
look Warehouse 1 Collection.
Distilled on the 7th October 2005, which
by my calculations makes it 15 year old,
it was initially matured in American
ex-bourbon casks for 14 years before being finished
for 1 year in 5 Tokaji Aszú wine
casks which were then vatted together
and bottled non chill filtered,
naturally coloured at their combined
cask strength of 53.6% ABV. The
combination of the 5 Tokaji Aszú wine
casks produced 1244 bottles.
Hungarian Tokaji is a decadent desert
wine which is now enjoying an exciting
resurgence, inspiring Glen Moray’s
master distillers as they seek out
interesting, eclectic casks to create
this special collection of whiskies.
Glen Moray say to expect expect sugar,
spice and all things nice from this
golden, cask strength dram, which moves
through a ‘full-on sweetshop’ on the
nose, to malty, maple syrup flavours and
a long, lingering marzipan finish that
beautifully balances the structure of
Glen Moray spirit.
Glen Moray Brand Ambassador Iain Allan
tells me to look out for the next two
instalments in the Warehouse 1
Collection later in the year, we should
expect to see a Barolo wine cask Glen
Moray around October and this should be
followed by a Manzanilla sherry cask
Glen Moray in November.
You will find the Glen Moray 2005
