Review of The GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Port Wood
Finish.
The Glenallachie
10 Year Old Port Wood Finish was first
matured for over eight years in American
oak barrels before being re-racked into
vintage Ruby Port wood pipes sourced in
North Portugal which the Glenallachie
tells me has developed the flavour depth
and complexity of the whisky, adding
vibrant fruit flavours.
This
Glenallachie 10 Year Old Port Wood
Finish is one of three new wood finishes
launched by the Speyside distillery in
July this year and just like the other
two bottlings in the range it has been bottled at 48% ABV, it is
naturally coloured, non-chill-filtered
and has an RRP of £54.99.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A lovely enticingly rich perfumed nose, honey, toffee and a slightly candied
fruity mix of strawberry, cherry, ripe
raisins and sweetened plum.
Taste:
Honey and treacle toffee coated cherries
charged with a lovely vibrant oak
spiciness lead the way, some late plum
and dark chocolate
Finish:
The fruit fades quickly leaving some
slightly drying lingering gentle oak
spices.
Comment:
I did enjoy this but not a huge port
influence, there is enough to get a
taste for it but personally I was left
wanting more, I wonder what it would
have been like with another 6 months or
so in the port pipe or more influential
port pipes.
