I like the sound of the PX Sherry Wood Finish, they all must be young unless they have mixed in some older stuff from the 1980s which I would doubt. Still good to see the distillery starting to turn out some new whiskies and I am sure more to come as the stock ages.

I'm curious about these. Which one is the best? Are they worth the money?

I would say that would depend on your personal preference for style of whisky and of course whether it is worth the money is also an individual thing. Personally the PX Sherry finish and Virgin Oak wood interest me.

I've gone and bought the peated port bottle. Been after a port finished whisky for some time now. Was going to get the Tomatin 14 but the peat and port sounded interesting to me. I'm after something a little different. £60 is as much as I'm willing to pay for something nice.

The PX sounds nice too. Let us know what you think of it. Wish I could afford all four.

Well I finally cracked last night I just couldn't help myself. I opened my peated port wood finish. I'm no whisky expert but I can tell you it's delicious. Here's my brief thoughts on it in Laymans terms.
Nose: peat right away but I would say it's just a medium peat. Very slight hint of strawberry but mainly peat on the nose.
Taste: very sweet up front, sugar, fruity strawberries. Not sure if I'm getting port but it's definitely sweeter and fruitier than a regular standard bourbon or sherried finished whisky. Slightly spicy that's maybe the younger whisky.. I then get a light peat note in the background. No burn which surprised me as its 46% abv.
Finish: short to medium. I didn't think it has a super long finish. Again a hint of sweetness on the finish but gone fairly quickly.
Overall I think this is a nice well balanced whisky. The nose I wasn't getting much just peat and slight sweetness. The taste is sweet but it doesn't overpower the light peat flavour. the finish is a little short i feel but that doesn't bother me too much. This gets an 8 out of 10 from me. It doesn't blow me away not massively complex but its a well rounded whisky dangerously easy to drink I'm pleased I bought it. Different to everything else in my collection. |
