Craigellachie 23 Year Old Review
This
new Craigellachie 23 year old will sit
at the top of the new Craigellachie
range for the time being until the 31
year old is released next year. Like all
the bottlings in the range it is
presented in its natural unadulterated
form, bottled at 46%ABV, non-chill
filtered, no added caramel colouring and
it carries a clear age statement, just
as we like it
William Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Aged oak amongst the sweet
honey, marzipan and vanilla. Raisins and
cinnamon.
Taste: A silky delivery of
honey and butter closely followed by
mature sweet oak which coats the
sulphury mildly smoky fruity malt.
Gentle spices, cinnamon, some marzipan,
zesty lemon and a raisiny fruitiness.
Finish: Deliciously long, mouth
coating oils keep the mature mildly
drying sweet oak and gentle spices
around for a long time.
Comment:
This is very very good, given it is
November I doubt that I will taste a
better new original distillery bottling
around this age this year. This is
mature with a muscular richness, yet
soft and gentle, delicious mature mildly
drying oak. Great to see a
original distillery bottling whisky of
this age bottled at 46% ABV without
chill filtration and no artificial
colour, it all adds to the delicious
pleasure.
