Craigellachie
17 Year Old Review
What
a difference four years can make, the
Craigellachie 17 year old is the 2nd
bottling in the Craigellachie range,
like all the bottlings in the range it
is presented in its natural
unadulterated form, bottled at 46%ABV,
non-chill filtered, no added caramel
colouring and it carries a clear age
statement, just as we like it.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: A lovely fresh nose with
pear, creamy vanilla and coconut, apple
pie, a wee touch of cinnamon.
Taste: Delicious candied
citrus fruit, lemon, orange some
pineapple in there also, all layered
between some creamy vanilla which
controls the oak dryness. Some gentle
spices, ginger, cinnamon a touch of
pepper.
Finish: A deliciously long
finish. The candied lemon and vanilla
slowly fades leaving a wee touch
of light smoke and some silky oak spice.
Comment:
Hello Craigellachie and welcome to the
world of Scotch Malt Whisky. Delicious
fresh and malty, I really enjoyed this
one. It has a lovely creamy softness and
oiliness which just helps the flavours
linger on the palate a little longer yet
it is still a full bodied meaty dram. It
gets more zestier by the mouthful. From
a price/quality point of view this would
be my pick of the new Craigellachie
range and it would more than hold its
own against some of the best whiskies of
similar age and price from the popular
established single malts which Speyside
has to offer.
SMW Score
90/100
The Craigellachie 17 is now available from
