Rosebank distillery was established in
1840. It was built next to the Forth
Clyde canal to allow for easy
transportation of the whisky produced.
It was purchased by DCL in 1914. It was
mothballed in 1993 and sadly is not
expected to reopen again. Rosebank
was triple distilled which is a
traditional production method in lowland
distilleries. When the distillery was
operational far too much of the
excellent malt it produced was allowed
to go into blends such as the George IV
blends. Rosebank is considered to be the
best of all Lowlands malts by many
whisky connoisseurs.
Official
bottlings of Rosebank are still
available in from UDV "Flora & Fauna
Series" and "Rare Malts Series". There
are also a few bottlings available from
independent bottlers.
