Longmorn distillery was built in 1894 by the
Longmorn-Glenlivet Distillery Company
which was owned by John Duff, Charles Shirres
& George Thomas. They were forced to
sell the distillery at the end of the
19th century due to the great recession
in the whisky industry. John Grant owner
of the Glen Grant distillery bought
Longmorn through his company Hill
Thomson & Company.
In the early 1970's,
Longmorn merged with The Glenlivet and
Glen Grant distilleries to create
The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. The
distillery doubled the number of stills
in 1972 from 4 to 6 and then
increased the number to 8 stills in 1974.
Seagram purchased the distillery in 1977.
Longmorn is one of the few distilleries
who never stopped production.
The distilleries belonging to
the Chivas and Glenlivet Group became
part of Seagram which was bought by the
French group Pernod-Ricard in December
2001.
Longmorn single malt whisky is very
highly rated by whisky connoisseurs.
Part of the Longmorn production is used
in the Something Special and Queen Anne
blends.
