Littlemill distillery was established in
1772 and certainly has a legitimate
claim to being the oldest distillery in
Scotland. Until the 1930's the
distillery
produced triple distilled whisky. The
design of the stills at Littlemill were
quite a unique design, Mr
Thomas the owner of the distillery was
responsible for this design, which was pot stills with rectifying
columns at their neck similar to
the stills you would find
at a grain whisky distillery. The theory
was that this design would produce a whisky
which would mature more quickly. At one
time the distillery made
three different malt
whiskies, these were Littlemill, Dunglass and
Dumbuck.
Littlemill has had many
owners throughout the years but is now
owned by the Loch Lomond Distillery
Company. It was closed for some years
during the 1980s but reopened in 1989.
In 1994 it closed again, but this time
much of the distilling equipment was
dismantled.
Sadly it seems doubtful that the
distillery will ever produce again due
to a major fire destroying the
distillery building in September 2004.
The distillery remains closed, but
supplies for bottling should be
available for some years to come.

 Littlemill
12 Year Old Single Malt.
Colour:
Amber gold.
Nose:
Smooth, malty, marshmallow taste, hints of ripe fruits, pears,
melon. Hints of grass and honey.
Taste:
Smooth, light malted sweetness. A touch of honey and nuts.
Finish:
A relatively long smooth finish.
