Review of Glenfiddich's first ever vatted vintage reserve the Glenfiddich 1974 Vintage Reserve

This is the third premium Glenfiddich whisky I have tasted this week (the others being the 21 year old and the Age of Discovery) and this is the by far rarest of the three. The Glenfiddich 1974 Vintage Reserve 36 year old is the latest limited release in the Glenfiddich Rare Collection. What makes this release different is that it is Glenfiddich's first ever vatted Vintage Reserve.

It was chosen by Glenfiddich’s largest-ever selection panel which included Glenfiddich’s Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s Global Brand Ambassador, Ian Millar and Glenfiddich’s UK Brand Ambassador, Jamie Milne – as well as 13 global Brand Ambassadors.

Much like the excellent and now very collectable Snow Phoenix vatting the Glenfiddich 1974 Vintage Reserve is a vatting of hand picked casks although in this case all from 1974. For more details on how the 1974 Vintage Reserve was selected see HERE

The Glenfiddich 1974 Vintage Reserve Rare Collection is a limited edition of only 1000 bottles worldwide of which only 50 bottles will be available in the UK. It was bottle at 46.8% and I suspect wont be around for long, so if you want a bottle don't hang around.

The Glenfiddich 1974 Vintage Reserve 36 year old  is currently available from The Whisky Exchange priced at £525 which is not a bad price when you consider you have to pay almost £2000 for a bottle of Glenfiddich 40 year old.
