Glendullan distillery was established in
1897 by the blender William Williams. In
1919, Williams merged with the Greenlees Brothers. Greenlees belonged to Alexander
& MacDonald in those days. Like many
other distilleries Glendullan distillery had to close
due to a lack of barley during World War II. Glendullan
was closed from 1940 up until 1947. The distillery
was completely refurbished in the early 1960's. A new distillery
was then built close by the original
distillery in 1971. Both of the distilleries were producing exactly the same malt because they were
both using the same water supply and the
same production methods and were located in the same area.
The old distillery finally ceased production for good in 1985.
