The Glenallachie distillery was founded
in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson Ltd a
subsidiary of Scottish & Newcastle
Breweries Ltd. It was designed by the
architect William Delmé Evans, who also
built Tullibardine and Isle of Jura. The
Glenallachie was built to supply
malt whisky to go into the Mackinlay
blend.
In 1985 Scottish &
Newcastle Breweries Ltd sold the
distillery together with the Isle of
Jura distillery to Invergordon
Distillers and two years later in 1987
the Glenallachie distillery was
decommissioned.
In 1989 Pernod
Ricard acquired Glenallachie through its
Campbell Distillers Ltd subsidiary who
already owned the nearby Aberlour
distillery. They doubled the number of
stills from 2 to 4 and restarted
production.
Official bottlings of
Glenallachie were rare, in 2006 a 16 year
old cask strength matured in sherry
casks was released, independent
bottlings were quite rare also. Almost
all of the whisky produced at
Glenallachie went into blends such as
Clan Campbell, Chivas Bothers 4th
largest blend.
In 2017 Pernod Ricard
sold the Speyside distillery to a three
person consortium lead by the former
BenRiach Distillery Company managing
director Billy Walker and in July 2018
the distillery launched a core range of
whiskies consisting of a Glenallachie 10
year old Cask Strength, 12, 18 and 25
year old.
