Compass Box - Artist Blend & Glasgow Blend Review

7th May 2021
Compass Box has dropped the 'Great King Street' title from their Artist Blend & Glasgow Blend, the two premium blends are 'A Tale of Two Cities' and I am pleased to say are now presented in a 70cl bottle for just a few pound more.

The creative whisky makers at Compass Box have revamped their permanent Great King Street Scotch blended whisky collection, namely the Artist Blend and the Glasgow Blend.

They have simply dropped the 'Great King Street' title from the name of each of the two whiskies from the collection giving each whisky a new more individual look and feel. Obviously with the name change the whiskies are now presented with a redesigned label and I can reassure fans of the previously named Great King Street collection there is no need to worry as both expressions still contain the same highly rated whisky with which they are familiar with.

Compass Box founder and creator John Glaser commented: "When I first created these blended Scotch whiskies I was inspired by the writing of Aeneas MacDonald in his classic 1930 book, ‘Whisky,’.

"MacDonald wrote about the distinct differences in whisky taste between the citizens of Edinburgh and Glasgow. He also detailed what blended Scotch whisky recipes were like at the time. This was all hugely inspirational to me when I first created Artist Blend and Glasgow Blend and it made these whiskies, in effect, an homage to Scotland’s two biggest cities."

Internationally renowned and award-winning designers Stranger & Stranger have added their own creative twist to both labels, conveying the tale of the two cities and two whiskies through new labels that celebrate the diversity of thinking and originality of Edinburgh and Glasgow. The designs are a homage to blending’s golden age in the late 19th century when individuals used artistry, creativity, and craft to pioneer the world-famous spirit: blended Scotch whisky (which is defined as a blend of single malt and single grain whiskies from different distilleries).

I am pleased to say that both the Artist Blend and Glasgow Blend are now presented in a 70cl bottle and both have a RRP of £37. You will find them and the rest of the  current Compass Box range available from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt
