Benriach distillery was founded in 1898 and was one of the few distilleries to malt its own barley although sadly this practice stopped in 1999. It is located right next door to its sister distillery, Longmorn. Following the Pattison Crash in 1900, Benriach was mothballed after just two years of production. It was rebuilt by the Glenlivet distillers and went back into production in 1965. After having various owners over the years the distillery was once again mothballed in August 2002 by its then owners, Pernod Ricard.

It did not stay closed for long this time as it was taken over in early 2004 by an independent consortium. Production was re-commenced immediately, meaning that the inventory was effectively uninterrupted. The first bottling of Benriach under the new owners took place in August 2004 these where Benriach 'Heart of Speyside', 12, 16 and 20 years old, and the peated 10 years old are all released to the public for the very first time.

You can now find Benriach available in any good whisky shop. The first distillation under the new independent owners the BenRiach Distillery Company was filled to cask in September 2004, but you will not be able to get your hands on this until at least 2016. Don't worry they have plenty already maturing for you to try until that time.

Benriach Heart of Speyside.
Colour: Amber, gold.
Nose: Fresh heather, fruit, honey, nuts and oak wood.
TASTE: This expression cleverly captures fruit, honey, heather and spice notes, against a backdrop of mellow oak wood, in a fresh and lively combination.

Benriach Curiositas 10 Year Old.
Curiositas uses a heavily peated malted barley, and this certainly comes through in the whisky. This rare peated single malt has wonderful overtones of peat reek, combined cleverly with a background of fruity, floral, heathery notes and an appealing presence of oak wood in the finish.
