Allt A Bhainne in Gaelic means "the milk
burn" and is pronounced "Alta-Vayne". The distillery was commissioned in 1975 to supply malt whisky as a
component of the Chivas Regal and 100 Pipers Blends. The distillery was expanded in 1989 and had a
potential output of 4.5 million litres of
alcohol. Allt-A-Bhainne was never bottled as a single malt in the past by Chivas,
Allt-A-Bhainne has only been available
through independent bottlers. It is a
very rich and expressive single malt.
The distillery was mothballed in 2003
but was reopened in 2005 after almost 3
years of silence.
