Review of the
BenRiach 2005 Cask No. 2682 12 Year Old.
 The
BenRiach 2005 Cask No. 2682 12 Year Old is one of 17 new limited edition
whiskies in Batch 15 of BenRiach's
popular Single Cask series of whiskies.
Distilled on 16th February 2005, this
peated expression of the BenRiach was fully matured
for 12 years in a Port cask and it was selected by
BenRiach
Master Blender, Rachel Barrie as part of
this latest batch of single cask
releases.
Non chill-filtered and natural colour
this peated port cask matured whisky was bottled at
53.9%
ABV, it is a limited release of 729
bottles and will be available from
specialist whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of Malt while stocks last.

Morrison's Tasting Notes::
Nose:
Up front there is gentle earthy peat smoke,
cigar box notes and a touch of liquorice,
behind these is a touch of orange,
cinnamon and a delicate touch of pepper.
Taste:
Orange infused with gentle ashy, earthy
peat smoke, some lovely juicy raisin, a little peach
and vanilla follow close behind.
Finish::
The port fruitiness fades first as the
mild smoke becomes a little more ashy,
before fading, a touch of pepper and
mildly drying oak bitters out.
Comment:
The nose didn't quite let on about the
fruity side of the pleasure that was to
come in the mouth but the palate and
lingering finish certainly lets you know
what this whisky is about. By no means a
peat monster, more a gentler balance of
peat and port.
