Review of the
BenRiach 1997 Cask No. 4437 20 Year Old.
 The
BenRiach 1997 Cask No. 4437 20 Year Old is one of 17 new limited edition
whiskies in Batch 15 of BenRiach's
popular Single Cask series of whiskies.
Distilled on 25th November 1997 and fully matured
for 20 years in a Marsala Hogshead Cask it was selected by
BenRiach
Master Blender, Rachel Barrie as part of
this latest batch of single cask
releases.
Non chill-filtered and natural colour
this Marsala cask matured whisky was
bottled at 54.8% ABV, it is a limited
release of 414 bottles and will be
available from specialist whisky shops
as The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of Malt while stocks last.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Delicate sweet barley sugared orange, a
touch of candied apple, a hint of zesty
spice.
Taste:
A deliciously sweet candied summer fruit
salad with orange being the dominant
fruit, a little creamy vanilla and
mature oak spice add to the pleasure.
Finish:
The finish is simply the deliciously
fresh summer fruit salad from the palate
slowly fading away to
leave a little slightly drying oak
spice.
Comment:
We don't see many whiskies fully matured
in a Marsala cask, the Marsala wine cask
is more often used to finish a whisky,
so it is more than a little rare to find
a whisky which has been fully matured
for 20 years in a Marsala wine cask.
There are generally two types of Marsala
wine, sweet and dry and after tasting it
I think I can say that this has been a
sweet Marsala wine cask. It is fresh and
vibrant and the sweet candied fruit is
simply delicious. If you are after a
sweet fruity easy drinking whisky to sit
back and enjoy on a summers evening then
you cant go wrong with this.
