Jim Murray's Whisky Bible
2021 World Whisky Award Winners.
 Whisky
writer Jim Murray has named his World
Whiskies of the Year in his soon to be
released Whisky Bible 2021 and this time
his top slot of 'World Whisky of the
Year 2021' goes for the second time in
the books history to a Canadian whisky,
Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye which
he scored at 97.5 out of a 100.
Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye is
made from a mix of malted and unmalted
rye and was bottled at a cask strength
of 65.1% ABV and unless you live in Canada don't bother
rushing out to the shops to try and get
hold of a bottle of this limited
edition, 100% Canadian Rye whisky, as
sadly it isn't currently available here
in the UK or other markets outside North
America which is a pity as it is
currently only $64 in Canada.
If you do live in Canada I suggest if
you want to taste the Alberta Premium
Cask Strength Rye you grab a bottle
quickly as given that it is a limited
edition I don't think it will be around
on the shelves for long.
Jim's runner up for 2021 is an America
Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Stagg
Jr Barrel Proof (64.2%), this was
available in the UK from whisky
specialist shops but good luck finding a
bottle now.
Jim's third best whisky of 2021 is Paul John Mithuna, an Indian
single malt whisky which I have never
come across, so good luck finding a
bottle of this rather mysterious winning
whisky as I have not seen it on sale
anywhere in the world, perhaps it has
still to be released? If so this award
may have increased its release price.
For his Single Cask Whisky for 2021 Jim
has named the Scotch single malt, single
cask whisky,
Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant 1956 62
Year Old Mr George Centenary Edition
which was bottled by the Elgin based and
still family owned and run whisky
producers and bottlers Gordon &
MacPhail. The whisky was released in
late 2019 to honour George Urquhart, a
member of the second generation of
Gordon & MacPhail's owning family, in
what would have been his centenary year.
On its release the Glen Grant 1956 62
Year Old Mr George did have a RRP of
£5,000 and I would guess if you could
still get a hold of a bottle now you may
have to may a little more.
Gordon & MacPhail has a fantastic track
record of bottling some outstanding
vintage Glen Grant single malts over the
years and if your pockets are deep
enough I would suggest seeking some out
if you what to experience a mature Glen
Grant and the excellent Glen Grant
original distillery bottling core range
which was revamped in recent years by
Glen Grants owners is also worth
checking out.
Once again there is no great surprises
in the Whisky Bible top slots, those of
you who pick up a copy each year will
know by now Jim's liking for Rye whisky,
American bourbon whisky and in recent
years since the distillery launched a
new core range Glen Grant whisky.
The Whisky Bible is more than just the
headline grabbing World Whiskies of the
Year, in the new 2021 edition Jim has
tasted, evaluated and rated over 4,500
whiskies including 1,250 new entries or
revisited whiskies.

the headline awards but are every bit as
