Whisky 1901 Announces Five New Releases in The Ledger Series

Whisky 1901 The Ledger Series

Independent whisky bottler Whisky 1901 has announced the release of five new expressions in The Ledger Series, expanding its collection of carefully selected single cask whiskies that celebrate provenance, individuality and the distinctive character of some of Scotland’s most respected distilleries.

Founded with a modern independent bottling approach and a classic luxury ethos, Whisky 1901 focuses on sourcing exceptional casks and presenting each whisky in a way that honours the heritage, story and personality of the distillery behind it.

For many whisky drinkers, including myself, Whisky 1901 may still be a name waiting to be discovered. As a niche independent bottler, the company has so far been recognised primarily for a small number of ultra-premium releases, including its highly limited The Collection series. With The Ledger Series, Whisky 1901 opens the door to a wider audience, offering whisky enthusiasts the opportunity to explore exceptional single cask releases at a more accessible level while maintaining the same attention to quality and craftsmanship.

The Ledger Series takes its name from the tradition of record-keeping, reflecting the importance of documenting each cask's journey from maturation through to final release. Every whisky in the range is selected for its individual character, capturing a snapshot of flavour, maturation and distillery style. Each bottling carries an age statement, with the current range spanning from 11 to 21 years old.

The series began with the release of the Miltonduff Aged 18 Years, bottled at the end of 2025, I haven't had the chance to taste this or any of the five new Whisky 1901 Ledger Series whisky releases so I cant comment on their quality but here is the specifications and producer's official tasting notes for the five new expressions bottled in April 2026:

  • Dailuaine 12 Year Old

    Specifications:
    Age: 12 Year Old
    ABV: 50.1%
    Bottles: 117
    Distillery: Dailuaine Distillery
    Cask Type: Ex-Bourbon
    Cask No: 321539
    RRP: £125

A classic ex-bourbon cask Speysider that is said to showcase Dailuaine's signature weighty and oily character. The maturation brings added depth, complexity and structure, giving this whisky a richness that sets it apart from others of a similar age. A beautifully balanced and approachable dram for everyday enjoyment.

    Producer's Tasting Notes
This sweet and viscous whisky layers notes of green apple, vanilla custard, and biscuity malt to create a palate reminiscent of a baked tarte tatin, eventually yielding to warming spices and chocolate in a sublime, long-lasting finish.

  • Tamnavulin 13 Year Old

    Specifications
    Age: 13 Year Old
    ABV: 58.2%
    Bottles: 186
    Distillery: Tamnavulin Distillery
    Cask Type: Ex-Bourbon
    Cask No: 1644
    RRP: £155

An elegant and expressive Speyside whisky from the often-overlooked Tamnavulin distillery. Described as bursting with crisp green orchard fruit, this character is enhanced by the influence of the quality ex-bourbon cask, creating a whisky with impressive depth and refinement. A 13 Year Old that delivers the complexity and maturity of something far beyond its years.

    Producer's Tasting Notes
Defined by an elegant, velvety texture, this fruity whisky evolves from fresh orchard fruits and vanilla fudge on the nose to a palate of baked apple, heather honey, and gingerbread spice, concluding with a long finish where sweet notes meet a lingering, tart crispness.

  • Ardmore 12 Year Old

    Specifications
    Age: 12 Year Old
    ABV: 58.1%
    Bottles: 235
    Distillery: Ardmore Distillery
    Cask Type: Ex-Bourbon
    Cask No: 800184
    RRP: £150

A rare Highland peated malt that provides a softer, more refined alternative to the bold, heavily peated whiskies often associated with Islay. The use of Highland peat brings a beautifully warming smoke profile, complemented by a distinctly gentle and floral character that adds elegance and balance.

    Producer's Tasting Notes
This delightfully peaty whisky balances soft, floral smoke and damp moss with a palate of heather honey and toffee apple, culminating in a long, ashy finish where robust maltiness and a bittersweet grip linger for an age.

  • Glen Garioch 11 Year Old

    Specifications
    Age: 11 Year Old
    ABV: 56.8%
    Bottles: 137
    Distillery: Glen Garioch Distillery
    Cask Type: Ex-Bourbon
    Cask No: 6074
    RRP: £125

Described as an expressive and characterful single malt that perfectly showcases Glen Garioch's distinctive, robust style. Rich, chocolatey and layered with biscuit-like notes, this whisky is said to deliver impressive depth and a lingering complexity that continues to evolve in the glass. A truly memorable dram with the potential to become a firm favourite.

    Producer's Tasting Notes
This big and bold whisky offers a robust, malty profile reminiscent of honeycomb and milk chocolate, transitioning from a palate of golden syrup and bitter orange into a long, complex finish driven by deep, earthy spices like mace and cassia.

  • Invergordon 21 Year Old

    Specifications
    Age: 21 Year Old
    ABV: 56.3%
    Bottles: 297
    Distillery: Invergordon Distillery
    Cask Type: Ex-Bourbon
    Cask No: 301986
    RRP: £145

Described as a refined and elegant single grain whisky that perfectly demonstrates the depth and sophistication this style can achieve. Matured for 21 years in an ex-bourbon barrel, it is said to have developed a remarkable balance of richness, smoothness and character. A true ‘sip and savour’ dram that showcases the timeless appeal of well-aged grain whisky.

    Producer's Tasting Notes
This elegant single grain whisky balances a nose of coconut and vanilla with a crisp, tropical palate and a long, creamy finish defined by warming spices and a mouth-watering citrus twist.

Whisky 1901's Master of Whisky, Matt Chambers, said: "The Ledger Series gives us the opportunity to focus entirely on the cask and the liquid’s personality. With the range, we’ve handpicked every whisky not just for its age, but for how it expresses its own distillery character. From the richness and depth of the Miltonduff Aged 18 Years to the vibrancy and structure found in the Ardmore Aged 12 Years, each cask tells its own story. Our aim has been to ensure that every bottling is balanced, distinctive and genuinely compelling in the glass. And because each cask bottling is different, once that cask has gone, it’s gone – offering a little piece of each distillery and cask history."

Aaron Damiano Sparkes, CEO of Whisky 1901, added: "Whisky 1901 was founded to shine a light on exceptional casks, alongside the people and stories behind them. As a niche independent bottler, we believe in giving whisky lovers a careful selection of drams to enjoy, alongside genuine transparency, letting each whisky speak for itself. Our new collection represents the beginning of that journey, and we’re proud to introduce whiskies that reflect the heritage and character of each distillery we’ve selected from."

The new Ledger Series releases are available in limited quantities through specialist retailers and partners including Master of Malt and directly through Whisky 1901, with RRPs ranging from £125 to £160.

Alongside The Ledger Series, Whisky 1901 continues to develop The Collection, its ultra-premium annual release series featuring exceptionally rare casks selected by Matt Chambers. Previous releases include the award-winning Edition One: Glenburgie Aged 35 Years and Edition Two: Jura Aged 25 Years, available in extremely limited quantities.

With future releases planned across both ranges, Whisky 1901 aims to continue exploring diverse distilleries, cask types and flavour profiles, creating a portfolio that appeals to seasoned collectors and those beginning their journey into premium independent whisky.
