Exchange April Fool's Day Whisky 2022
has been revealed as a 5 year old single
malt whisky which was distilled at
Ardnamurchan distillery.
 The Whisky Exchange today introduced
what they call "an exclusive, extra
special whisky for April Fool’s Day".
And like the best jokes, it may look
simple upon first glance, but there’s a
lot going on underneath…
The spirits retailer has kept the key
elements of this limited-edition whisky
hidden until 9.00am today, Friday 1
April, when all was revealed.
Maintaining the mystery, the label of
the bottle has been printed with an ink
sensitive to UV light, hiding details
until a torch, included with every
purchase, reveals the hidden text.
A visible statement declares "Extremely
old, I wish I were younger" as a tactic
to retain the illusion, everything about
the whisky is old yet the liquid is just
5 years old.
The Whisky Exchange has worked with one
of the oldest names in Scottish
distilling and so, despite its
comparative youth, this fruity and very
special April Fool’s 2022 whisky is said
to be wise beyond its years. The
distillery is celebrated as one of the
most up-to-date in Scotland, marrying
traditional production with green
technology to create the country’s
greenest operation.
So what is the actual details of the whisky:
The spirit was distilled at Ardnamurchan
– owned by whisky veterans Adelphi –
under the watchful eye of Alex Bruce –
descendant of Andrew Usher, the father
of modern blended whisky. Alex and his
team selected five casks for TWE,
bringing together old-fashioned smoke
with bright, unpeated spirit to create a
truly modern and fruity whisky.
Matured in first-fill Bourbon casks for
5 years which produced 1,600 bottles, it
has been bottled at 53.2% ABV. Priced at
£74.95, and the price is no April Fool's
joke but it does come with a free torch, the young
Ardnamurchan whisky is exclusively
available from

to sell out very quickly.

The Whisky
Exchange's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Apples, oranges and freshly polished
leather shoes. A curl of smoke winds out
of the glass, followed by chocolate,
earthy forest floors and a touch of
gummi bear fruitiness. Hints of farmyard
and gravel sit behind, along with black
pepper and strawberries.
Taste:
Apple and banana covered with a thick
layer of rich peat smoke and a
sprinkling of barrel char. Milk
chocolate and cocoa nibs poke through
the smoke, along with dried mango,
sultanas and a handful of dates. Gentle
peppery spice – white pepper and
cinnamon – builds, with a touch of
orange and lemon jelly.
Finish:
Cocoa nibs and leather slowly fade to
reveal toffee apples and light
fruitcake.
