Tamdhu unveil
the second instalment in their Quercus Alba Distinction
series which celebrates the use of First-Fill
American oak Oloroso sherry cask for
maturation.
 Tamdhu
has unveiled Quercus Alba Distinction II
the second instalment in their limited
edition Distinction series which they
launched this time last year.
Tamdhu is the only distillery in
Scotland to 100% mature all of their
whisky in sherry casks and Tamdhu
Quercus Alba Distinction II is a
celebration of First Fill American Oak
Sherry casks in particular.
Tamdhu has put a lot of time, effort and
money into producing these First Fill
American Oak Sherry casks to mature this
whisky in, the oak to create the casks
began its journey in the North American
oak forests before being imported into
Spain, the new American Oak was then
crafted into casks in Spain’s ‘Sherry
Triangle’ over the course of six years.
During this period, the staves were air
dried in the Mediterranean sun then
assembled and toasted by coopers. The
casks were then filled with
Oloroso sherry and left to season for a
period, they were then emptied and
shipped to Speyside to be filled with
Tamdhu's spirit.
Tamdhu tells me that the combination of
Tamdhu's distinctive spirit, the first
fill American Oak Oloroso sherry casks
and of course 'time' has resulted
in a complex dram with a natural amber
colour and rich fruity flavours.
On the nose, Quercus Alba Distinction II
is said to deliver a warming notes of
malt, vanilla, and spiced oak, along
with zesty oranges and fresh mint. A
rich and luxurious mouthfeel brings
damsons and dark chocolate. The finish
is prolonged with sherried oak giving
way to figs, golden syrup, and freshly
baked crumble.

mouthfeel, soft oak, and unmistakable
hints of sherry."
Tamdhu Quercus Alba Distinction II has
been bottled at 48% ABV and has a RRP of
