Tamdhu
release a First Fill
European sherry butt matured single cask
whisky which has been hand-selected by
Assistant Distillery Manager,
Iain Whitecross.
Tamdhu has announced the forthcoming
release of a new single cask whisky
which has been hand picked by Tamdhu
Assistant Distillery Manager, Iain
Whitecross. The Tamdhu Iain Whitecross
Single Cask 5892 Vintage 2003 expression
which Iain has selected was was
distilled on the 19th November 2003 when
it was filled to a First Fill European
Sherry Butt then bottled in March 2020.
Bottled at a strength of 57% ABV, the
big sherried Tamdhu Iain Whitecross dram
has a big price tag, it is £265,
and will be a distillery exclusive
release, that is to say it will be
available direct from the Tamdhu online
shop, where it is now available to
pre-order, as the distillery still
currently remains closed to visitors
during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Iain has worked at Tamdhu since 2006
and, shortly after Ian Macleod
Distillers reopened the distillery
doors, he was appointed as Assistant
Distillery Manager in 2014 due to his
unrivalled working knowledge of the
whisky, the casks, the people.
To honour Iain’s commitment to the
distillery, as well as his craft, Tamdhu
Distillery Manager, Sandy McIntyre,
offered him the rare opportunity to
select and bottle his very own single
cask.
Iain Whitecross, Tamdhu Assistant
Distillery Manager, said: "I’m delighted
to have had the honour of selecting this
spectacular whisky – my own unique piece
of Tamdhu history. I love being part of
the Tamdhu family, and this represents a
real career highlight for me.
"After sampling 150 exceptional casks, I
nosed Cask 5892 and it stood out by a
mile. I knew in that moment that we had
to bottle it. It fills me with pride to
know that my colleagues and fans of
Tamdhu will have the chance to sample
and enjoy my perfect dram."
Tamdhu tells me that the whisky Iain has
selected has notes of deep toffee on the
nose, accompanied with perfectly
balanced milk chocolate, hazelnut,
peach, and vanilla.
On the palate, they say to expect a
wonderful contrast of rich truffle,
sharp zesty orange and warming cinnamon.
The dram finishes with notes of crème
caramel, soft oak, wine gums and – of
course – unstoppable sherry notes.
This new release follows Tamdhu's recent
success at the World Whiskies Awards
finals where the Speyside distillery
scooped the top prize for ‘World’s Best
Single Cask, Single Malt’ with its
Distillery Manager’s Single Cask
bottling, hopefully the Tamdhu Iain
Whitecross Single Cask 5892 Vintage 2003
expression will match the WWA winning
single cask whisky for quality.
As I said the Tamdhu Iain Whitecross
Single Cask expression is now available
to pre-order direct from the Tamdhu
website and if you want to explore the
current Tamdhu core range of whiskies
you will find them
available from specialist
online whisky retailers such as
The Whisky Exchange,
The Whisky Shop and
Master of
