Tamdhu Edinburgh Airport European Sherry Oak Single Cask 6192Due to the still ongoing global travel disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic whisky fans have been unable to access travel retail exclusive bottlings like they once could.

Tamdhu distillery in Speyside which is known for the sherried single malt it produces recognises that the demand is still there from whisky fans and have announced that they have now made their award-winning Tamdhu Edinburgh Airport European Sherry Oak Single Cask No. 6192 limited edition whisky available to buy online via their Tamdhu website.

The distillery recognises the increase in the domestic market consumer demand following global travel disruptions and have decided to make the remaining bottles of its Tamdhu Edinburgh Airport European Sherry Oak Single Cask bottles available for online purchase, giving non-travellers, which is just about everyone now, and those who have been affected by rescheduled or cancelled flights, an opportunity to sample the oldest single cask released by the Tamdhu Distillery to date.

Distilled on the 25th November 2002 and bottled in February 2019, this 16 year old first-fill Oloroso sherry single cask which produce 597 bottles in total was chosen unanimously from a shortlist of eight casks by key members of the Dufry and Edinburgh Airport teams during a visit to the Tamdhu distillery.

The news comes after the expression was crowned as ‘Category Winner’ in the 13 to 20 Years’ Single Cask, Single Malt Scotch category at the World Whiskies Awards 2020.

Sandy McIntyre, Tamdhu Distillery Manager, said: "Naturally we were delighted when this Single Cask Tamdhu expression won in its category at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards.

"We’re proud now to bring the critically acclaimed liquid to a wider audience, allowing more Tamdhu fans the opportunity to taste this wonderful dram and appreciate the craft of the entire team here at the distillery."

Tamdhu Edinburgh Airport Single Cask, a limited release of 597 bottles, is presented in a 70c bottle, bottled at 57.1% ABV, is non chill-filtered and naturally coloured and is described by Tamdhu as being rich and luxurious on the nose, with notes of buttered fruit cake and orange zest. The palate bursts with rich sherry flavours, dried apricot and a note of cinnamon. This culminates with a warming vanilla and fresh oak finish.

You may no longer need a passport to get hold of a bottle of the Tamdhu 2002 Vintage single cask bottling but you will have to dig deep into your pockets if you want to taste it as it has a £279 price tag. As I said you  can now find it available from the Tamdhu website.
