The SMWS has
released a blended Scotch malt whisky
featuring whiskies from the five regions
of Scotland in one bottle – Campbeltown,
Speyside, Islay, the Lowlands and the
Highlands – and it has been released to
coincide with whisky festival season in
May.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has
launched a new Scotch Blended Malt
Whisky to mark the height of festival
season in May, bringing together spirit
from all five of Scotland’s
whisky-producing regions in a single
release.
The SMWS The Five Regions Blended Malt
11 Year Old whisky spans Campbeltown,
Speyside, Islay, the Lowlands and the
Highlands, and has been released to
align with a busy period in the whisky
calendar.
May is a key month for whisky
celebrations, with the Islay Festival,
Spirit of Speyside, and Campbeltown
Malts Festival all taking place across
Scotland, alongside World Whisky Day on
16 May.
"The Five Regions" is an 11 Year Old
blended malt from The Scotch Malt Whisky
Society, combining whiskies from each of
Scotland's five recognised
whisky-producing regions.
Priced at £74, the release is a
re-casked version of the Society's
outstanding 2025 bottling "Wandering
Alchemy". A portion of that original
whisky was used for this release, while
the remainder was returned to cask to
mature further and marry for another
year.
The whisky was matured in a mix of
bourbon, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, and
HTMC (heavily charred oak) hogsheads,
producing flavour notes which they
describe as fudge doughnuts, glacé
cherries and caramelised apple slices,
alongside wood varnish, teak oil, nutmeg
and star anise.
Alongside this release, the Society is
also unveiling 16 additional single-cask
bottlings from across Scotland’s regions
to celebrate whisky season. These
include "Post-bonfire bath bomb" (£199)
and "Eau d'archive" (£72).
Founded in Edinburgh in 1983, the SMWS
is known for prioritising flavour-led
whisky exploration rather than focusing
on distillery names. Instead, bottles
are given evocative titles such as "Red
wine and brine in the old coal mine" and
"Lavender honey and chimney lobsters" to
reflect tasting notes and aroma
profiles. The Vaults in Leith,
Edinburgh, remains its historic home.
Whisky Quality Manager Julien Willems
said: "May is an important month for
whisky, and we wanted to honour the
season by showcasing the incredible
breadth of whisky produced across
Scotland.
"This bottling is all about bringing the
five regions together to create
something unique. Anyone who bought a
bottle of last year’s “Wandering
Alchemy” will have the chance to compare
the two expressions, which together
reveal the huge difference re-casking
can make!"
For whisky fans in London, a tasting
event will take place on 12 May at the
SMWS venue at 19 Greville Street. The
event will feature whiskies from
Campbeltown, Speyside, Islay, the
Lowlands and Highlands, encouraging
guests to compare regional styles and
explore the question: "what comes first,
flavour or region?"
Members who purchase a festival bottle,
along with new members joining from May
2026, will also be entered into a prize
draw to win a cask from Distillery 10.
Each qualifying bottle or membership
activation earns one entry, with the
winner selected at random and announced
on 5 June 2026.
