Independent
bottler Skene whisky release
two first fill Oloroso sherry cask,
single cask single malts, one from
Tomatin and one from Blair Athol and a
peated Islay single malt from
Bunnahabhain and all
at a reasonable price.

Following on from its "Black Tartan
88" Scotch blended malt whisky release
in September Edinburgh based independent
bottler Skene Whisky has released a trio
of “Skene” labelled single malt whisky
bottlings.
The trio of affordable single malt
whiskies carry no age statement have
been released just in time for
Christmas, two from Skene's "aged in a
sherry cask" range and the third whisky
in the trio is a "peated Islay malt".
The first is a single cask Blair Athol
2015 fully matured in a first fill Oloroso
sherry cask. Just 246
bottles were filled at an ABV of 48%
with natural colour and no chill
filtration. The price is only £34 for a
70cl bottle.
The second is a single cask Tomatin
2015 fully matured in a first fill Oloroso
sherry cask. Only 186
bottles were filled at a punchy ABV of
50%, again with natural colour and no
chill filtration. The price is just £34
a 70cl bottle.
The third and final bottling is a peated
Bunnahabhain 2013 single malt (aka “Staoisha)
from two casks. Just 504 bottles were
filled at an ABV of 48%, yet again with
natural colour and no chill filtration.
The price is a very modest £42 a bottle.
The three new single malt releases
together with earlier Skene bottlings
and some aged Macallan's are now
available from Skene Scotch Whisky’s
online shop
Skene tells me that after a few years
away from bottle sales they plan to
release a number of new ranges over the
next few months - "Skene Reserve",
single cask premium bottlings of vintage
malt whisky (eg Macallan 30 year old).
"Skene Sherry Editions" will be
sherry-matured single malts ( normally
at 48% ABV) aimed squarely at drinkers.
"Skene American Oak Editions" will be
ex-bourbon single malt bottlings (again
normally at 48% ABV). "Skene Peated Malt
Editions" will be peated single malt
expressions (yet again normally at 48%
ABV).
You will find Skene whisky available
from specialist online specialist
retailer
Master of
Malt as well as direct from the
Skene website.
