Introducing
SirDavis, a new American rye whisky,
born from a collaboration between
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Moët
Hennessy's Scotch whisky maker Dr. Bill
Lumsden.
Moët Hennessy, a subsidiary of LVMH, has
partnered with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter to
launch SirDavis, an innovative new
American rye whisky. This pioneering
collaboration reflects the shared vision
of Knowles-Carter and Moët Hennessy,
both leaders in culture and
craftsmanship, for the future of
American whisky.
The creation of this whisky was a
journey years in the making. A
passionate connoisseur of Japanese
whisky, Knowles-Carter approached Moët
Hennessy to help develop a distinct
flavour profile that embodied her ideal
whisky experience. At the same time,
Moët Hennessy was seeking to expand its
footprint in the American whisky market,
making this partnership a perfect
alignment of timing and ambition.
"SirDavis is not only a revelatory and
exceptional American Whisky, which we
are very proud of. It is also a
testament of the unwavering dedication
to craftsmanship, heritage and
innovation shared by LVMH and Beyoncé
Knowles-Carter," said Bernard Arnault,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
LVMH.
Moët Hennessy enlisted Dr. Bill Lumsden,
one of the world’s most acclaimed Master
Distillers, renowned for his work with
Glenmorangie and Ardbeg Scotch whiskies,
to oversee the whisky creation process.
Lumsden crafted the brand's bespoke mash
bill—a rare and unique blend in the
American whisky landscape, consisting of
51% rye and 49% malted barley—as the
foundation of the spirit. He then
employed traditional whisky-making
techniques to achieve an elegant
mouthfeel and texture reminiscent of
Japanese and Scotch whiskies, while
preserving the bold, deep flavours
characteristic of classic American rye.
"With SirDavis, we looked to challenge
the category norms and offer something
new in the space," said Lumsden. "The
distinctive grain selection and unusual
secondary maturation in sherry casks
helped us achieve a signature profile
completely unique to SirDavis, one of
bold sophistication."
The partnership between Moët Hennessy
and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter was built on
a shared dedication to excellence, a key
factor in both the collaboration and the
creation of SirDavis. To ensure the
whisky's quality, SirDavis was
anonymously entered into several
prestigious spirits competitions before
its official launch. It went on to win
Best In Class for American Whiskey at
the 2023 SIP Awards, surpassing over 100
other entries in the category. This top
honour, awarded to only one brand per
category, is reserved for premium
spirits that achieve the highest scores
from consumer judges. SirDavis also
earned a Gold Medal (95 points) at the
2023 New York International Spirits
Competition and a 93-point rating from
the 2023 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
Knowles-Carter also brought her
visionary artistic flair to the design
of the SirDavis bottle. The tall,
striking bottle features clean lines and
ribbed glass that captures light
beautifully, showcasing the liquid
inside. A black medallion with a regal
bronzed horse, symbolizing strength,
respect, and Knowles-Carter’s Texas
roots, adorns the bottle, making it a
distinctive symbol of luxury.
Further honouring Knowles-Carter’s
Southern heritage, the whisky is
finished, blended, and bottled in her
home state of Texas. Unlike other
acquired brands, SirDavis marks a
historic first for Moët Hennessy as its
inaugural spirits brand developed
entirely in-house in the United States,
with headquarters based in Houston,
Texas.
