Scotch Whisky
- Local Hero or International Ambassador

The event Scotch Whisky - Local Hero
or International Ambassador?, from the
Scotch Whisky Association and the
Scottish Parliament's Cross Party Group
(CPG) on Scotch Whisky, is being held at
the Parliament in Edinburgh on Friday 17
August.
John Park MSP and co-chair of the CPG,
Campbell Evans, SWA director of
government and consumer affairs and Ken
Lindsay, international brand ambassador
for Chivas Brothers will lead a debate
on Scotch Whisky's economic and cultural
contribution.
Campbell Evans said: "Scotch Whisky is
more than a drink. It carves out
Scotland's identity in almost 200
countries. Made only in Scotland for 500
years, it is seen as a literary and
cultural icon heralded around the globe.
At the debate, we will ask whether it
can be a pioneer for other Scottish
products and discuss how integral Scotch
Whisky is to Scotland's heritage and its
future."
John Park MSP said: "Scotch Whisky is
more than a cultural icon, it is hugely
important to Scotland's economy and
supports many communities and thousands
of jobs across the country.
The Cross Party Group on Scotch Whisky
in the Scottish Parliament provides a
great forum to increase understanding of
the industry and I am delighted that we
are able to open that knowledge up to a
wider audience with this Festival of
Politics event.
In the centenary year of the Scotch
Whisky Association this should prove to
be a fascinating and insightful debate
on one of our most important
industries."
John Park MSP will chair the debate and
focus on the importance of Scotch Whisky
to the economy. Campbell Evans will
consider the cultural impact of Scotch.
Ken Lindsay, who travels round the world
primarily as an international ambassador
for Chivas Brothers' renowned
Ballantine's brand, will focus on the
global role of Scotch and why it is
enjoyed by so many people across the
world.
The event is part of the SWA's Centenary
celebrations. Another highlight of the
year is the Scotch Whisky: From Grain to
Glass exhibition opening in the Main
Hall of the Scottish Parliament on 29
November. The major exhibition, running
for two months, will feature many images
and artefacts from Scotch Whisky
distilleries which have never previously
been seen by the public. It will
celebrate the past 100 years of the SWA
and look to the future.
