Douglas Laing
unveils Scallywag Winter Edition 2022,
the third annual limited release of
their cask strength, sherry cask matured
Speyside region blended malt whisky and
once again presented with a rather
festive looking scarf.
 As
the summer fades to a distant memory and
with winter well on the way Glasgow
based whisky distiller, blender and
bottler Douglas Laing has unveiled the
next instalment of their limited edition
winter warmer, Scallywag Winter Edition
2022.
Scallywag is the Speyside whisky region
offering from Douglas Laing's Remarkable
Regional Malts whisky range, a range of
blended malt whiskies from each of the
geographical whisky regions of Scotland.
The Scallywag Winter Edition is a
limited annual release cask strength
edition that was first launched back in
2020 which has proven to be popular with
whisky drinkers and recently scooped a
gold award at The Spirits Business
Scotch Whisky Masters 2022.
Given that it is a Speyside region
whisky and a winter edition you would
probably guess that it is a sherried
whisky and you would be right, the
Scallywag Winter Edition 2022 is a 100%
sherry cask matured bottling, it has
been matured exclusively in a
combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximinéz
Sherry butts.
Douglas Laing tell me that each single
cask single malt which makes up this
blended malt whisky winter warmer was
hand-selected by the Douglas Laing
family for its "rich and full-bodied
flavours that complement the season",
resulting in a spirit which they
describe as "spectacularly spicy with
hints of cinnamon and ginger, alongside
sweet, indulgent dark chocolate".
Scallywag Winter Edition 2022 is a
limited release of 5,400 bottles which have been
bottled at a cask strength of
54% ABV and as you would expect from
Douglas Laing it is naturally coloured
and non chill-filtered which should
further enhance its flavour.
