The Royal Lochnagar
distillery was established by John Begg
in 1845 near the village of Crathie,
which is very close to Balmoral, the
Royal family's Scottish country home.
The distillery was given its "Royal"
status in 1848 following a visit from
the Queens husband Prince Albert. Soon
after the visit the distillery started
supplying Queen Victoria and the Royal
family and was awarded the "Royal"
title. The distillery has been rebuilt a
number of times throughout the years
most recently being completely rebuilt
in 1967. Today it is part of the UDV
group
