The Brackla distillery was founded
in 1812 by Captain William Fraser. It
was in 1835 that the "Royal" was added
to the name, the distillery had been
given the royal warrant because King
William IV enjoyed the whisky. This was
the first distillery to be given the
royal warrant. The Royal Brackla
distillery was rebuilt in 1898 and
completely renovated in 1966. The number
of stills where doubled from 2 to 4 in
1970.
The present owner is John Dewars
& Sons, which is part of the Bacardi
group. The majority of the malt produced is used in blends
such as Dewars and Johnnie Walker Gold
Label.
