Rock Island Rum Cask EditionGlasgow based independent Scotch Whisky distillers, blenders, and bottlers, Douglas Laing & Co has unveiled a fresh chapter in their Island Blended Malt saga: the Rock Island Rum Cask Edition.

This new release treads in the footsteps of its renowned predecessor, the Rock Island Mezcal Edition of 2022, a whisky that showcased the maritime essence of Rock Island harmoniously intertwined with the nuances of Mezcal cask aging, infusing an alluring touch of sugared smokiness.

Exclusively nurtured within Plantation Rum Casks sourced from the sun-drenched Caribbean realms of Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad, the Rock Island Rum Cask Edition boasts a unique finishing journey.

The amalgamation of Single Cask Single Malts, meticulously married to curate this Island Whisky, has savoured a protracted maturation finale. I am told that whisky enthusiasts of Rock Island can anticipate an ensemble of flavours, including the dance of salted caramel, toasted oak, brown sugar, and a whisper of smokiness.

This latest Rock Island instalments packaging is said to encapsulate and translate an aura of elegance interlaced with oceanic vitality, presented through its top-tier maritime aesthetics. The kaleidoscope of tropical hues – ranging from blues and reds to greens – is accentuated by fleeting glints of gilded foil detailing. This artful design symbolises the distinct islands involved in the crafting of this Island Blended Malt Scotch Whisky: Orkney, Arran, Jura, and Islay.

This limited-edition gem has been sealed at an impressive 46.8% ABV and stands as a tribute to the Douglas Laing family's unwavering principle of bottling whisky in its unadulterated glory – bereft of artificial colouring or chill-filtration – harmonizing with their ethos of presenting whisky 'As Natural as It Gets'.

Emma Reid, Rock Island’s Brand Manager commented: "The Rock Island Brand is deeply cherished at Douglas Laing, as it continues to embrace the very best of Scotland’s Whisky-making islands. We are so excited to have teamed up with Plantation Rum, in whose casks our Island Malt has been finished. This expression of Rock Island highlights a harmony of flavour, from the peat-smoked shores of Scotland to the warm climes of the Caribbean, as it brings together two iconic spirits. We cannot wait to share this whisky with Rock Island fans globally!"

Jonas Indesteege, Brand Manager at Plantation Rum commented: "During his many trips around the world, Alexandre Gabriel, creator of Plantation Rum, jumps at the chance to discover the production techniques, traditions, and innovations of his peers – distillers, brewers, or passionate wine growers. These encounters enable him to forge true friendships and, fortunately for lovers of unique spirits, to develop exclusive collaborations and experiments that give birth to deliciously unexpected rums brimming with originality. While visiting Douglas Laing & Co he found a true connection which was the start of an exceptional partnership…"
