Jackton
distillery release a new limited edition
Scotch blended whisky under their Raer
brand, Raer Pedro Ximénez Expression
Whisky.
If I was to mention Jackton distillery I
am guessing many of you may never have
heard of it. Jackton is a small 250,000
litre capacity distillery located in a
small village of the same name south of
Glasgow between East Kilbride and
Eaglesham in South Lanarkshire, it was
given planning permission in June 2019
and went in production in early 2020 so
given what was going on in the world at
the time you could be forgiven for not
recognising it.
Like many new distilleries Jackton has
its own gin as well as some sourced
blended whisky which it markets under
the brand name 'Raer'. Going forward the
distillery has big plans including
maturation in a variety of casks
including bourbon, sherry, rum, port and
a variety of wine casks, these will be
matured in dunnage and racked warehouses
which they have onsite. They also have a
planning application for the
construction of their own floor maltings
and they have a visitor centre already
up and running.
The reason I mention it today is that
they have just announced the release of
another blended Scotch whisky which they
have sourced and bottled under their
Raer brand, Raer Pedro Ximenez
Expression.
This limited edition Raer Pedro Ximénez
Expression Whisky is a blend od Scotch
single malt and grain whiskies, it has
been bottle at 40% ABV, it is non-chill
filtered and naturally coloured, this
new release follows last year’s
Scottish Whisky Award's Gold Medal
Winner - The RAER Oloroso Expression!
Launching the new blend at the
family-owned distillery, Director Jaynie
Kean explained "We have selected the
best first-fill sherry casks from Jerez
de la Frontera in Spain and brought them
back to Jackton Distillery to further
mature and finish this RAER PX
Expression in-house. Pedro Ximénez
sherry is different from the Oloroso
casks we sourced last year. As such it
imparts new qualities, giving a
mouth-watering finish.
"We’re delighted with the end result, it
was always going to be difficult to
follow our Oloroso Expression but I
think we’ve managed it. Initially we’re
only able to produce a few hundred
bottles and already we’ve had interest
from across the world!"
Jackton is an independent distillery
owned and run by the Kean family and in
addition to receiving the prestigious
Scottish Whisky Awards Gold Medal, the
distillery has also been honoured with
two Great Taste Awards, two silver
medals at the San Francisco World
Spirits Competition, and two silver
medals at the London Spirits
Competition. Hopefully these are a sign
of good things to come in the future.
