Review of the Old Pulteney 30 Year Old 200th Anniversary release,

Old Pulteney 30 Year Old 200th Anniversary

Old Pulteney 30 Year Old is one of two highly limited Old Pulteney single malt Scotch whiskies released today, 16 June 2026, to commemorate a significant milestone for the distillery — 200 years of whisky making on Scotland's remote northern coastline.

Limited to just 1,000 bottles worldwide, the whisky has been matured in American oak casks before undergoing further refinement in European oak. The result they tell me is a single malt that captures the enduring influence of the Caithness coastline, celebrating both the distillery's unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and the qualities that have made Old Pulteney one of Scotland's most respected and enduring single malts.

Enhancing the rarity of this release, Distillery Manager Malcolm Waring personally hand-filled the casks in which the whisky matured for three decades, allowing it to develop the signature coastal character for which Old Pulteney is renowned.

The whisky is housed in an elegant crystal decanter, painstakingly handcrafted and decorated by Glencairn Crystal. Finished with delicate rose-gold detailing, each decanter retains Old Pulteney’s distinctive neck design, inspired by the unique shape of the distillery’s stills. Intricate sand-etched wave patterns adorn the base, reflecting the maritime elements that have influenced the whisky throughout its maturation. The bespoke presentation case, meanwhile, draws inspiration from weathered driftwood, mirroring the whisky’s balance of sophistication and rugged coastal character.

Designed by Lewis Moberly, the Old Pulteney team collaborated with two specialist British craftspeople to bring the presentation to life. Glencairn Crystal produced the bespoke decanters, while Morans Wood Components handcrafted the distinctive outer cases.

As Old Pulteney enters its third century, these remarkable releases serve not only as a celebration of the distillery’s rich heritage, but also as a statement of intent for the future, marking the beginning of a new era for The Maritime Malt.

You can read my thoughts on the Old Pulteney 30 Year Old below, it has been bottled at a flavoursome 50.4% ABV, there are only 1,000 bottles available from today with a RRP of £1,750.

Old Pulteney 30 Year Old Review

Bottled at 50.4% ABV.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: It opens with enticing sweet barley sugared honeyed almond and some gentle vanilla, followed by spiced pear, green apple and lemon citrus mingling with notes of vanilla toffee. As it develops, delicate hints of leather and tobacco emerge, all underpinned by Old Pulteney's signature maritime character, bringing touches of a lovely sea salty breeze.

Taste: Silky and richly layered. Bright citrus and juicy ripe pear lead into baked apple and salted caramel all complemented by warming cinnamon and nutmeg, while the influence of European oak contributes subtle spice, gentle tannins and structure and reminds us of its maturity. Throughout, a delicate thread of salinity runs through the whisky, balancing the sweetness and adding complexity.

Finish: Long, smooth and lingering. An interplay of oak spice and gentle tannins gradually give way to the salty notes. The maritime influence remains present to the last, leaving a lasting impression of coastal elegance, maturity and balance.

Comment: A cracking nose which is worth spending time over, overall a sophisticated and deeply expressive single malt that showcases three decades of maturation. Rich yet elegant, it combines Old Pulteney's unmistakable coastal DNA with layers of orchard fruit, oak, spice and maritime salinity, creating a whisky that is both complex and effortlessly harmonious and leaves you in no doubt where it comes from.
