Established in 1826 in Wick, Pulteney
Distillery is the most northerly
distillery on the Scottish mainland and
at that time was only accessible by sea.
The barley was brought in by sea, the
whisky shipped out by boat and many of
the distillery workers were also
employed as fishermen. Sadly the herring
fishing industry is no longer part of
daily life in Wick but Pulteney
Distillery continues to operate,
distilling one of the finest Highland
malts available.
Pulteney is now
owned by Inver House Distillers Ltd,
they bought both the Balblair and
Pulteney distilleries in 1995. It's
single malt is known as Old Pulteney,
but the majority of the whisky produced
at the distillery goes into Inverhouse
blends such as Pinwinnie Royal,
MacArthur's and their Old Pulteney
whisky liqueur.
The quality,
price and availability of the 12 Year
Old make it an essential malt for any
whisky lover. In fact if you where to
taste this whisky blind you would be
forgiven for mistaking it for a
more well known refined malt.
