Whisky Focus - Nico Hülkenberg Gets a Bespoke Whyte & Mackay Whisky Birthday Gift

Sahara Force India Formula One Team driver Nico Hülkenberg celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday with a bespoke bottle of Whyte & Mackay whisky that was personally crafted for him by Master Blender Richard Paterson.

Having previously created bespoke bottlings for the likes of Homer Simpson, Barak Obama and Nico’s fellow team mate and Whyte & Mackay Global Whisky Ambassador, Paul Di Resta, Richard’s one-off whisky creations are the envy of the circuit.

The whisky, which is carefully matched to Nico’s character and driving style, is made using a number of malt and grain whiskies from across the finest distilleries in Scotland.

Richard Paterson, Master Blender, said:

‘I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Nico several times and I can see he is a patient, self confident individual who wants to succeed both personally and on the track.

"For his blend I have used whisky aged between 19 and 25 years old to reflect his birth date and his age. I’ve also included malt from our Dalmore distillery that has been matured in Oloroso sherry casks in sunny Gonzalez Byass which not only represents his tarot symbol, The Sun, but the bodega is near the Jerez circuit which seems more than a fitting match for a Formula One driver.

"The overall result is a whisky that is strong, highly complex but with secretive layers that unfold as you get to know the whisky."

Nico Hülkenberg commented:

"The whisky was very mild and it was a real good taste. It was good to offer a glass to my friends to celebrate my birthday and we all agreed that the taste of the whisky was a real pleasure. It is one of the best I‘ve ever tried."
