Michael Henry Master Blender at Loch Lomond GroupMichael Henry, Master Blender for the Loch Lomond Group, has been honoured with the prestigious title of Keeper of the Quaich, the Scottish distiller announced.

For the past nine years, Michael has led the whisky blending team at Loch Lomond Group, an independent distiller crafting single malts since 1814. Hailing from Northern Ireland near the iconic Bushmills Distillery, Michael grew up in a community where whisky was deeply ingrained in daily life. Inspired by the enthusiasm of his father and grandfather, who both enjoyed and appreciated whisky, his passion for the spirit began at an early age.

After graduating from Heriot-Watt University’s esteemed brewing and distilling program, Michael joined Loch Lomond Group in 2007 as a warehouse manager and became Master Blender in 2015. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in transforming the company into a cornerstone of world-class Scotch whisky. Michael oversees the production of multiple brands, including Littlemill, Glen Scotia, Loch Lomond Whiskies, Spearhead, and Noble Rebel.

Under Michael’s leadership, the Loch Lomond Group has garnered widespread industry recognition, earning more than 100 awards this year alone. Highlights include being named the Most Awarded Scotch Distillery at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (with 14 awards), receiving the title of Best Single Malt Producer at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, and achieving Hall of Fame status with a Superior Gold award at the Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition.

The Keeper of the Quaich distinction is one of the highest honours in the drinks industry, reserved for individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the heritage and future of Scotch whisky. Michael received this accolade during a ceremony held last month at Blair Castle in Perthshire.

Bill White, Group Operations Director, Loch Lomond Group, said: "This is a real testament to all Michael has achieved in his career, but especially over the last almost 20 years where he has worked at Loch Lomond Group. We are ever impressed by his craftsmanship and abilities to work across such as wide portfolio of liquids, and this is demonstrated through our multi-award-winning brands. I am so pleased to see Michael recognised as one of the best of the best in the Scotch industry."

Michael Henry added: "I am deeply honoured to be named a Keeper of the Quaich. It’s a personal accomplishment, but it also reflects the incredible team at Loch Lomond Group and all the work we have achieved, making our distilleries some of the most interesting in the world. We are committed to creating something special, and I am very proud to be part of the journey."

The Keepers of the Quaich is a prestigious international society founded by the Scotch whisky industry to honour exceptional dedication to the production, promotion, and safeguarding of the world’s finest distilled spirit. The Quaich, a traditional Scottish drinking vessel, serves as a symbol of friendship and the shared appreciation of Scotland’s iconic national drink.
