The Macallan Edition Series, annual limited editions launched in the US with The Macallan Edition No. 1.

The Macallan Edition is the start of an annual limited edition series from the iconic Speyside distillery. Each year, a unique selection of casks will be handpicked to create a new Edition and will be co-created with different partners. The series aims to exemplify the diversity of the oak casks used in the maturation of The Macallan whiskies, as crafted by the Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno.

The very aptly named The Macallan Edition No. 1 is the debut expression in the Edition Series.  It celebrates The Macallan’s oak cask management policy that oversees the entire process from wood sourcing, to finished, seasoned cask. It also showcases the profound influence of The Macallan’s exceptional oak casks into the flavour of the whisky. The result The Macallan say is a bold single malt drawn from eight of the finest European and American oak cask styles and sizes, sherry-seasoned and aged to perfection before being combined to create this rich and multidimensional whisky.

The Macallan say that the character of each cask style lives within the whisky, creating a taste journey that begins with soft oak notes and takes one’s palate to deeper, richer flavours. When married, these casks bring together a distinctive flavour profile that highlights The Macallan’s complexity and diversity. Bottled at a higher strength of 48% ABV for a fuller, richer flavour.

Launched late 2015 in the US with a price tag around US$90, these bottlings tend to have a way of making there way back to these shores so I thought I would give it a mention for the Macallan enthusiasts and collectors amongst you of which I know there are more than a few of you.
