Whisky Focus - The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release

The Macallan has introduced a new single malt Scotch whisky: The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release. Created to commemorate 55 years since the film first appeared on the big screen, this expression highlights a shared dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and storytelling that links the distillery with Diamonds Are Forever and the wider world of James Bond.

Building on the success of the The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release, this new edition continues the creative partnership between the two cultural icons. Developed by Whisky Maker Russell Greig, the release takes direct cues from the film’s narrative, including Bond’s refined understanding of wine.

Distilled in 2007 and aged for 18 years, the whisky reflects the intrigue and thematic duality associated with both brands. It is matured in bespoke hybrid casks combining sherry-seasoned European and American oak, along with American oak casks that formerly held red wine — a nod to moments in the film where Bond’s wine expertise reveals crucial clues. These casks collectively shape a whisky defined by depth, subtle sweetness, and technical artistry.

Aromatically, the expression offers polished oak, vanilla bean, and dried fruits. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of caramel and cocoa-dusted truffles, developing into fruit complexity and gentle nutmeg before finishing long and elegant.

Russell Greig, The Macallan Whisky Maker, commented: "Like Bond himself, this whisky holds its secrets. It may appear dark and mysterious, yet on the palate it surprises with elegance and lightness. Each cask adds a layer to the story – a reflection of the film's twists and turns, and a testament to the shared spirit of innovation that connects The Macallan and James Bond."

Bottled at 45.5% ABV, its natural colour recalls the red and orange hues of Aztec sandstone found in the Nevada desert, paying tribute to the film’s iconic Las Vegas setting. The striking bottle and presentation box draw directly from original production artwork housed in the official Bond archives, incorporating elements such as the laser-beam satellite and the opening title sequence to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the world of James Bond.

The Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release is available exclusively through The Macallan’s website and at the distillery’s Estate Boutique, priced at £600/$750. Wider availability through select retailers will begin in March 2026.
