Whisky Focus - Loch Lomond Steam & Fire Review

Loch Lomond Steam & Fire Review

11th June 2024
Review of Loch Lomond Steam & Fire, finished in Heavily Charred Casks Steam & Fire is said to pay homage to the extensive capabilities of the Loch Lomond Distillery.

Loch Lomond Steam FireThe journey of Loch Lomond Steam & Fire commences with distillation in a harmonious combination of Straight Neck and traditional Swan Neck Pot Stills. Subsequent maturation takes place within first-fill Bourbon barrels and refill American Oak casks. This single malt is then bestowed with a distinctive character during a 10-month long finishing period in heavily charred American Oak casks.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Mild vanilla toffee, honey, apple and distant peach and lemon.

Taste: Apple with a wee bit of a orange and peach edge and the very slightest hint of distant smoke all with a lovely gentle brown sugared sweetness and a touch of a vanilla.

Finish: Medium finish, gentle sweet vanilla sugars bow out first to leave equally gentle slightly drying oak with the gentlest of smoky edge's which bitters out.

Comment: A very gentle nose, the gentle smoke and oak does build and cling more to the palate after a few mouthfuls and comes more to the forefront, the fruit doesn't hang around long.

SMW Whisky Score 81/100
