Lochlea 7 Year Old - The Oldest Bottling From Lochlea So Far

14th January 2026
Lochlea unveils their oldest Single Estate Single Malt So Far… it will be available from 23rd January 2026.

Lochlea 7 Year OldLochlea Distillery has unveiled its oldest single malt release to date: a limited Lochlea 7 Year Old Single Estate Single Malt, marking a significant milestone for the independent, family-run Ayrshire distillery. Grown, distilled and matured entirely on the Lochlea estate, this release embodies the distillery’s unwavering commitment to provenance, quality and full on-site maturation.

Matured exclusively in seven hand-selected first-fill Bourbon casks filled in 2018, the 7 Year Old represents the natural evolution of Lochlea’s spirit. Said to be richer, deeper and more expressive than previous releases, it retains the distillery’s signature fruit-forward character while delivering added depth and complexity. Each individual cask brings its own distinctive influence — from sweet pineapple tarts, juicy tropical fruits and ripe peaches, to vanilla custard, creamy cereal notes, pear and apple — carefully married to create a beautifully balanced whisky.

Bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, this special release preserves the whisky’s full texture and character, offering a layered profile which they tell me reflects both the quality of the casks and the purity of Lochlea’s Single Estate spirit.

Distillery Manager Darren McCormick said: "Reaching seven years of maturation is a huge moment for us as a young distillery. These casks have been quietly resting in our warehouses since 2018, and the transformation over time has been incredible to watch. Our 7 Year Old is the richest, creamiest and most complex age statement we’ve released so far, yet it still carries that unmistakable Lochlea fruitiness."

Darren continued: "Each of the 7 Hand-selected First-fill Bourbon Casks bring something different, from tropical fruits to buttery pastry notes, and marrying them together has created a whisky that feels both indulgent and beautifully balanced. We’re incredibly proud of this release, and we can’t wait for people to taste how our spirit continues to mature and evolve."

Lochlea 7 Year Old contributing casks

The seven casks used for this release each contribute their own character to the final whisky: Cask No. 99 brings sweet pineapple tart notes; Cask No. 103 adds sweet, creamy fruit; Cask No. 104 delivers juicy tropical fruits; Cask No. 105 introduces icing sugar, oak and pear; Cask No. 107 contributes oak, vanilla and custard; Cask No. 108 brings peaches, cereal and oak; and Cask No. 109 rounds out the profile with apple, cereal and cream.

Founded on a 222-acre farm owned by Neil and Jen McGeoch, Lochlea is one of the very few fully grain-to-cask single-estate distilleries in Scotland. Originally home to a herd of 150 beef cattle, the farm diversified into growing malting barley in 2014 — a decision that ultimately led to the establishment of the distillery, which began production in 2018. Farming remains central to Lochlea’s identity, with barley grown, distilled and matured entirely on site.

The estate also holds deep cultural significance. Robert Burns lived and worked at Lochlea from 1777 to 1784 during some of his most formative years, and today the distillery continues to honour this heritage while producing modern, expressive Lowland single malts rooted in the land that inspired Scotland’s national bard.

The Lochlea 7 Year Old Single Estate Single Malt will be available from 23rd January 2026, with an RRP of £90 per 70cl bottle, you will find it available f
