Lochlea distillery, located on a farm in Ayrshire where Roberts Burns once worked, has unveiled its first age statement whisky, Lochlea 5 Year Old, a limited edition vatting of just 5 single casks of Lochlea, it will rather aptly be released for sale on the anniversary of Robert Burns birthday, 25 January, Burns Night!

Lochlea 5 Year Old Anniversary bottling 2018 -2023Ayrshire distillery, Lochlea, is celebrating its 5th Anniversary this year and the distillery is marking the occasion with the release of a special limited edition whisky with an age statement, Lochlea 5 Year Old.

Crafted under the expert guidance of Production Director John Campbell and his team, Lochlea 5 Year Old is a unique vatting from five distinct single casks of Lochlea personally chosen by Campbell, with each cask said to be revealing a different facet of the Lochlea house spirit.

This exclusive single malt holds profound significance for the Lochlea team, as it marks their inaugural age statement release since the distillery's establishment five years ago on Lochlea Farm, the very place where Robert Burns, the renowned poet and lyricist, lived and drew inspiration for his work so it is rather apt that Lochlea unveil the limited edition dram just ahead of Burns Night on 25 January, a celebration of the immortal Robert Burns, the famed Scottish poet.

Notably, two of the casks utilised in this release date back to the initial filling in August 2018, making it the oldest bottled and released Lochlea whisky to date. The culmination of this limited 5 Year Old expression involves a harmonious blend of two first-fill ex-Bourbon casks, one first-fill Oloroso sherry cask, one double-matured Oloroso Sherry cask, and a double-matured Pedro Ximenez Sherry cask. The result is said to be a whisky with a delightful and rich flavour profile, showcasing the expertise and dedication of the Lochlea team.

John Campbell said: "To mark our 5th Anniversary milestone, we wanted to create a whisky that shows off the best of Lochlea spirit that has been matured in different styles of casks over the last half a decade. We have carefully chosen these five casks that have matured our single malt to perfection, then vatted them together to create a unique bottling of Lochlea that we wonít replicate ever again Ė itís an incredibly special dram to mark our first special milestone birthday. And as always with our whiskies, itís made entirely from barley grown on our farm here at Lochlea.

"In celebration of this special milestone, we felt it was fitting to release it on Burns Night as a nod to Robert Burns who once worked the land that we rely on for our own barley and, ultimately, our final spirit."

Lochlea stands out as one of the rare distilleries in Scotland that manages the entire whisky production process from growing its own barley to cask maturation. Located in the picturesque region of Ayrshire, the distillery conducts barley cultivation, spirit distillation, and stock maturation all on-site, encompassing both the distillery and the adjoining farm. This comprehensive approach not only maintains a consistent level of production quality but also aligns with the distillery's commitment to natural sustainability.

Apart from this commemorative anniversary release, Lochlea offers a collection of annual limited-edition seasonal whiskies that celebrate the changing seasons on the farm. Additionally, there is a Cask Strength series. In 2022, the distillery introduced the acclaimed 'Our Barley' as its signature expression, now accessible throughout the entire year.
