Review of the
new Label 5 Bourbon Barrel Scotch Single
Grain whisky which has been fully
matured in first fill ex-Bourbon Barrels.
Label
5 which is best known for its smooth
easy drinking Scotch blended whisky has
launched its first Single Grain offering
here in the UK market, the Label 5
Bourbon Barrel Scotch Single Grain
whisky.
Label 5 Bourbon Barrel Scotch Single
Grain was produced and aged at Label 5's
grain distillery, Starlaw, in Central
Scotland, this Single Grain whisky has
matured for over three years in
first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. This
release marks an exciting milestone for
Label 5, renowned as one of the world’s
top ten best-selling Scotch blended
whiskies.
True to Label 5's signature style,
Bourbon Barrel is described as smooth
and impeccably balanced. They tell me
that it offers delightful notes of
vanilla and oak which provide a sturdy
foundation for its subtle fruity
undertones.
If you don't want to drink it neat they
tell me it is delicious served over ice
or as an essential component in classic
cocktails such as the Old Fashioned or a
straightforward whisky and cola.
Crafted with adherence to time-honoured
methods, this spirit is meticulously
created at Starlaw, Scotland’s sole
fully integrated site, housing a grain
distillery, warehouses, bottling
facilities, and a cutting-edge
sustainability ethos.
Jamie Stewart, UK Commercial Director,
La Martiniquaise-Bardinet UK owners of
Starlaw and Label 5 said: "The UK launch of our first
single grain whisky is a really exciting
time for Label 5 and showcases the
expertise and craftsmanship that goes
into making our globally acclaimed
blends. We are confident that Bourbon
Barrel will be a welcome addition to our
range and a firm favourite amongst UK
whisky drinkers."
To mark the UK launch, Label 5 is
returning as the official whisky of
Yardworks – the internationally renowned
festival of urban street art, taking
place on 4th and 5th May at SWG3 in
Glasgow.
Presented in a 70cl bottle and bottled
40% ABV, Label 5 Bourbon Barrel has a
very palatable price tag of £20 and will
be available in 191 Asda stores across

Tasting Notes:
Nose: A
lovely gentle Kentucky bourbon character
with an enticing mix of sweet vanilla
toffee, some distant coconut and a
little orange citrus and oak lurking in
the background.
Taste: A
mix of sweet iced coconut and vanilla
toffee lead closely followed by a lovely
touch of oak spice, a mix of orange
citrus and spiced pear give a fruity
edge.
Finish: A
longish length finish, the sweet vanilla
and citrus fruit is short lived but the
now vibrant oak spices continue to build
and peak and is the star of the finish.
Comment:
A very smooth easy drinking young single
grain whisky where the first fill
ex-Bourbon oak is the star of the show,
it very much has a Kentucky Bourbon
character. The lovely oak spices build
with each sip and mix well with the
vanilla and citrus fruit. If you are
looking for a new affordable dramming
whisky or a whisky to use in your long
drinks or cocktails this summer, at £20
a bottle from Asda this is hard to
overlook.
